The Headset Design for PlayStation VR2
This design effectively portrays the 360-degree vision that players experience when they enter the virtual reality world: a spherical ball.
The PS5 product line's aesthetic served as another source of inspiration for the PS VR2 headset's design. You'll note certain visual and tactile parallels between the PS5 system and the next-generation VR headgear, which our design team had in mind when they designed the console. While the PS VR2 headset's design placed more emphasis on adding roundness since it is intended to be in continual human contact—much like the rounded edges of the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset—the PS5 console has flat edges because it is intended to be exhibited on a level surface.
Our aim is to design a headset that will not only look good in your living room but also keep you so engrossed in your gaming that you hardly even notice you are using a controller or headset. For this reason, we made sure the headset felt comfortable across a range of head sizes by closely examining its ergonomics and putting it through a rigorous testing process. We retained the same design for the PS VR2 headset since we received a lot of excellent feedback on the first PS VR headset's ergonomics, which included a simple adjustable headband and careful weight distribution. Players will be familiar with other features like the headset's adjustable scope, which allows you to move the scope region closer or farther away from your face, and the location of the dual headphone jack.
We went one step further in improving comfort with the PS VR2 headset by including new features like a lens adjustment dial, which gives users another way to adjust the lens distance between their eyes for the best possible view. Along with the additional features, including the integrated motor for the headset feedback, we also made a leaner design that weighs a little less. Developing a more streamlined design with additional capabilities to surpass our initial headset proved to be quite a task, but when viewing the completed design, our engineering and design teams demonstrated that it was achievable!
We also wanted to provide a treat: to give gamers a more pleasant experience, we placed thousands of tiny PlayStation emblems to the front and rear bands of the PS VR2 headgear, just like we did with the PS5 console and DualSense controller.
The debut of PS VR2 will mark a significant advancement in virtual reality gaming. With the PS VR2 system, there are many exciting new features to look forward to, such as incredible visual fidelity in 4K HDR and cutting-edge graphical rendering, improved tracking capabilities like inside-out camera tracking, new features of the PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology like headset feedback, and the new, user-friendly PS VR2 Sense controller that produces an extraordinarily deep sense of immersion. In addition, the PS VR2 system comes with a straightforward single cord setup that allows you to start playing games right away. Developers of virtual reality games already have access to PS VR2 development kits, and we can't wait to see what innovations they will design to make virtual reality gaming truly amazing. We're excited to provide you with more information regarding PS VR2. Keep checking back!
