Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD preview – Moon’s haunted

Always being the underdog in his brother's escapades, living in constant shadow, and being ignored in mainline Mario games. When he does gain attention, it's generally because he finds himself in a dangerous situation, like in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. In contrast to Mario, who usually has a better time exploring vibrant realms filled with food, dinosaurs, and entertainment, our main character in the Luigi's Mansion spin-offs is often terrified to death as he battles eldritch monsters and phantom armies.

Personally, I hope there is a spin-off where Luigi has a prosperous, peaceful, and happy life. However, the universe isn't always a pleasant place. And Luigi's path ahead will always be paved with an abundance of ghosts.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 gets the HD treatment

Beginning with Luigi being sent on a mission to repair the fragments of the Dark Moon, a magical ghost-controlling item, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, also known as Dark Moon, opens. He follows Professor E. Gadd's instructions and traipses through a variety of haunted places, including mansions, in order to find these pieces—all the while battling legions of ghosts.

I've had the opportunity to go through the first two realms of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD thanks to Nintendo; although I've completed the entire game on the Nintendo 3DS a long time ago, I can only speak on these remastered chapters. I'm confident that Luigi's Mansion 2 HD will be a terrific modern re-release for Nintendo, even with that warning.

The main factor that elevates Luigi's Mansion 2 HD above other remasters is its graphic enhancements. This version of the Nintendo 3DS keeps everything from the original model, with some clarity improvements and somewhat more user-friendly controls. This time, the helpful map at the bottom of the screen is absent; instead, you'll need to open it and manually search for objectives. Despite this change, the gameplay is still straightforward and satisfying.

It's odd  when I was playing Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, I had the strong feeling that not much had changed in terms of graphics. The game appears precisely as I recall. However, I saw a very substantial improvement when I launched Dark Moon on my 3DS, especially in terms of character models and textures. As the title suggests, Luigi's Mansion 2 is now completely HD, polished for a contemporary gaming generation, and it looks amazing when played.

The return of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is welcome. I strongly think Mario lovers should give this treasure some serious attention because it is so underappreciated. Whether you've played the other Luigi's Mansion games or not, this fantastic, multi-layered adventure is still worth playing in the present day.

Why Luigi’s Mansion 2 stands the test of time

For many reasons, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is still regarded as a masterpiece from the Nintendo 3DS period, but above all, for its dedication to creative puzzle solving. You are tasked with the straightforward mission of finding ghosts in the game's early chapters, but soon enough, your quest becomes more difficult due to ghosts with unique powers and interesting exploration features.

Doors just seem to vanish sometimes. Occasionally, a massive spider will spin a web that prevents you from entering hallways. Ghosts occasionally use actual objects as shields. Sometimes ghosts are so large and enraged that using your Poltergust 5000 to suck them up will require an upgrade.

The only way ahead in every situation is to puzzle and reflect. Rubbing your brain in an attempt to figure out a workable answer and pinpointing just what Luigi's Mansion 2 HD / Dark Moon requires of you. Sometimes, finding the answer means frantically going through rooms until you locate a specific object. At times, it entails repeatedly flashing your lights in an attempt to find the spirits that haunt you. Sometimes, it signifies that Luigi is taken by surprise by the spirits' plot to make him afraid.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is surprisingly complex for a game series that primarily appeals to older children. Sometimes, puzzles are truly mind-boggling, so you'll need to pause and consider your options before moving further.

Before you can solve a new problem, there's always a hidden door in a place you haven't explored or a certain set of steps you must follow. You must be patient, because patience equals satisfaction when it comes to that kind of investment.

It's satisfying to become stuck in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and then gradually figure out a way out, knowing that you did it on your own initiative and with the help of your own astute reasoning. The game offers a respectable challenge for anybody wishing to exercise their cerebral muscles, but it is never too difficult that the process becomes annoying.
